Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announces successful restoration of critical bridges on NH 44 in Jammu and Kashmir
KATHUA, June 25, 2026 :- Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the successful completion of restoration works on the flood-damaged bridges over the Ravi River and Sehar Khad near Kalibari on National Highway 44.
The successful reconstruction of these structures has successfully reinstated a vital transportation link between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring the resumption of smooth interstate transit.
Both bridges had sustained extensive structural damage during flash floods last year, which significantly disrupted connectivity along this strategically important highway corridor. Recognizing the critical importance of the route for both national security and regional trade, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways undertook the restoration works on high priority and completed the engineering tasks within the stipulated timeline.
The reopening of these key bridges will ensure seamless connectivity and facilitate the smooth movement of passenger vehicles and heavy freight carriers across the regional borders. Furthermore, the restored highway infrastructure will provide substantial relief to thousands of devotees undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage, while simultaneously strengthening regional mobility and boosting economic activity across Jammu and Kashmir.
