Indian Army leads rescue operations after warehouse collapse in Kolkata

KOLKATA, June 25, 2026The Indian Army Eastern Command rescue teams have launched round-the-clock search and rescue operations at the site of an under-construction godown collapse in the Taratala area of Kolkata. Working in close coordination with the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, and Kolkata Police, seven specialized army teams remain deployed at the site to pull out individuals trapped under the heavy debris.

The military rescue columns are heavily supported by medical personnel, ambulances, and advanced engineering equipment, including specialized cutting machinery and high-intensity illumination systems to facilitate uninterrupted night operations. To ensure immediate life-saving care, the army has also established a fully equipped 10-bedded emergency medical facility on-site, staffed with medical and surgical specialists.So far, rescue teams have successfully pulled out 31 citizens from the collapsed structure.

The joint disaster response operations continue unabated as personnel focus all efforts on locating and rescuing several other individuals who are still feared trapped under the structural ruins. The Eastern Command reiterated its steadfast commitment to supporting the civil administration and providing all necessary assistance to those affected by the mishap.
