Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha thanks PM Modi for J&K’s first National Centre of Excellence in Awantipora

SRINAGAR, June 25, 2026 :- Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya following the central government’s approval for the union territory’s first National Centre of Excellence.

To be established at Awantipora in the Pulwama district, the state-of-the-art facility will serve as a premier national hub for high-altitude sports and various elite athletic competitions.

The upcoming campus is designed to skill thousands of local youths across multiple sporting disciplines by providing world-class infrastructure and elite coaching directly within the region.

The extensive facilities at the campus will include specialized athletics tracks, indoor stadiums, football turfs, hockey turfs, and dedicated courts for kabaddi and kho-kho. Additionally, the mega project will feature a modern shooting range, a swimming pool, a taekwondo hall, and an integrated strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation complex.

To ensure comprehensive development and care for athletes, the centre will also house dedicated player hostels, a sports science centre, and a specialized sports medicine centre.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that this landmark infrastructure project will play a pivotal role in transforming the sports ecosystem of the union territory, effectively training and nurturing the next generation of Olympic and international champions from the region.
