Assam crime rate and case pendency drop significantly reports Director General of Police
GUWAHATI, May 16, 2026 :- Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh announced a substantial decline in the state’s crime rates and case pendency during a virtual crime review meeting held for March and April.
The online review, which connected all Officers-in-Charge, Superintendents of Police, and Range Officers, highlighted the state police force’s sustained crackdown on criminal activities and its focus on strengthening investigative efficiency under the guidance of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Statistical data shared by the police chief revealed that the crime rate per lakh population in Assam has dropped to 100.2, down from 121.5 in 2025 and 349.5 in 2021. Additionally, case pendency has been significantly reduced to 10,902 cases, compared to 11,140 in 2025 and a staggering 133,982 cases in 2021.
The monthly average registration of new cases has also seen a downward trend, falling to 3,065 from 3,682.9 in 2025 and 11,103.3 in 2021.
The state has simultaneously recorded a major improvement in judicial processing, with the charge sheet rate rising to 86.04 percent from 81.46 percent in 2025 and 39.40 percent in 2021.
According to the top official, these positive indicators are the direct result of focused policing, strict supervision, technology-driven investigation methods, and an ongoing commitment to ensuring a safer environment for the citizens of Assam.
