Lieutenant Governor Inaugurates South Kashmir Volleyball League And New Sports Hall In Shopian

SHOPIAN: May 14, 2026: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially inaugurated the South Kashmir Volleyball League 2026 today, marking a significant milestone in the region’s sports development.

During the event held in Shopian, the Lieutenant Governor also dedicated a new Multipurpose Sports Indoor Hall at Arhama to the local youth. The facility, constructed at a cost of 4.94 crore, is designed to provide a high-quality space for various athletic activities, further enhancing the sports infrastructure in South Kashmir.

In his address, Manoj Sinha highlighted that since its inception in 2021, the league has evolved into a vital platform for youth engagement and the promotion of a competitive sports culture.

He emphasized that the tournament serves as a powerful medium for social transformation, moving young people from the sidelines to becoming active participants in their own futures.

The initiative is also a cornerstone of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign, offering sports as a constructive alternative to steer the younger generation away from drug abuse and toward healthy, productive lifestyles.

The Lieutenant Governor further detailed the administration’s commitment to sports, noting that approximately 22 crore has been invested in sports infrastructure in Shopian over the last six years, with an additional 8.80 crore in projects currently underway.

He pointed out that 20 Khelo India centers are now operational across South Kashmir, providing consistent training and equipment to hundreds of athletes.

Concluding the ceremony, he urged young sportspersons to act as mentors for the next generation and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to dismantle the narco-terror ecosystem while fostering a brighter future for the Union Territory.
