Cabinet Approves 361 Crore Integrated Solid Waste Management Project For Srinagar

SRINAGAR: May 14, 2026: The Council of Ministers, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has officially approved the establishment of a large-scale Integrated Solid Waste Management project at Achan.

The initiative, estimated to cost 361 crore, involves the development of an 800 TPD facility designed to modernize the urban waste infrastructure of the city. This decision was finalized during the sixth meeting of the Council of Ministers, highlighting a strategic shift toward scientific waste management and sustainable disposal practices in an environmentally responsible manner.

The new project aims to drastically improve the waste processing capacity of Srinagar through the implementation of advanced systems for collection, segregation, treatment, and disposal. By integrating these modern technologies, the administration expects to significantly enhance local sanitation standards and reduce environmental pollution.

This development is viewed as a vital step toward creating cleaner and healthier urban surroundings for residents, aligning with broader goals for regional environmental health.In addition to immediate sanitation benefits, the facility at Achan is designed to support long-term urban planning and sustainability.
