DRDO and IAF successfully flight test indigenous TARA glide weapon system

New Delhi, May 8, 2026: Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Air Force successfully conducted the maiden flight-trial of the Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation weapon off the coast of Odisha on May 7, 2026.

This modular range extension kit, known as TARA, represents India’s first indigenous glide weapon system designed to convert unguided warheads into precision-guided weapons.

The weapon system was designed and developed by Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad alongside other laboratories. Development was undertaken in collaboration with Development cum Production Partners and various Indian industries, which have already commenced production activities.

Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams involved, characterizing the trial as a significant advancement in India’s indigenous defence capabilities.
