JK ACB Registers Disproportionate Assets Case Against Chief Accounts Officer
SRINAGAR, May 07, 2026 — The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has registered a case regarding disproportionate assets against Zafar Iqbal, a KAS officer currently serving as Chief Accounts Officer in the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.
The action follows a secret verification process conducted by the bureau into allegations that the official had accumulated significant wealth exceeding his legal sources of income.
The investigation suggested that during various postings, including a tenure as Treasury Officer in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, the official allegedly misused his position to acquire properties worth crores in his name and the names of relatives.
Based on the preliminary findings, the bureau established a prima facie case of criminal misconduct, leading to the registration of FIR No. 06/2026 at the Anti-Corruption Bureau Central Police Station in Jammu.
The charges were filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Following the registration of the case, the bureau initiated a formal investigation to determine the full extent of the acquired assets and the methods used to obtain them.
Authorized by search warrants from the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court in Jammu, teams from the bureau carried out simultaneous searches at multiple locations.
These operations targeted the residential properties of the accused in Bathindi, Jammu, and Gursai, Mendhar, as well as his official residence in Sanat Nagar, Srinagar.
During these searches, officials recovered and seized various incriminating documents related to both movable and immovable properties, and further investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
