Nubra Cleanliness Campaign Launched to Promote Sustainable Tourism
NUBRA, May 07, 2026 — The District Administration Nubra initiated a comprehensive district-wide sanitation and cleanliness campaign today under the leadership of Mukul Beniwal, Deputy Commissioner of Nubra.
The initiative was designed to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable tourism practices throughout the region.
The launch saw a high level of engagement from various local leaders, including Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jigmet Raftan, the SHO of Nubra, and numerous departmental officers.
The campaign involved simultaneous sanitation drives across all villages in the district, specifically targeting major tourist destinations, local markets, and public spaces.
Activities extended to government offices, educational institutions, and roadsides to ensure a wide-reaching impact. Beyond the immediate physical cleanup, the drive focused on educating the community about the long-term importance of maintaining an eco-friendly environment.
A diverse group of stakeholders joined the effort, including village Lambardars, students, and staff from local schools. Professional groups such as the Camel Association Nubra and the Hotel and Guest House Association Nubra also participated alongside local residents.
These groups worked together to address waste management and improve sanitation standards in both residential and high-traffic tourist areas.While speaking to participants at Hunder, Mukul Beniwal noted that as a premier tourist destination in Ladakh, Nubra Valley should serve as a model for pristine and environmentally conscious living.
He encouraged the youth and local communities to transform cleanliness into a continuous public movement. He further reiterated the commitment of the administration to environmental preservation and the consistent implementation of proper waste disposal practices across the district.
