Piyush Singla Reviews Progress of Drug Awareness Campaign in Shopian
SHOPIAN, May 05 — Secretary of the Information Technology Department and District Mentor, Piyush Singla, chaired a major anti-drug awareness camp today at the Mini Secretariat as part of the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.
During the event, he inspected various departmental stalls showcasing government schemes, vocational training, and livelihood initiatives designed to empower local youth.
Piyush Singla emphasized that the administration’s strategy must focus on integrating affected individuals back into the mainstream through structured counseling and employment-oriented programs, ensuring they have the necessary support to lead productive lives.
Addressing a large gathering of students, civil society members, and officials, Piyush Singla highlighted the devastating socio-economic impact of addiction and called for a unified response from families and educational institutions.
He stressed that while the government is leading the charge, the battle against narcotics requires the active vigilance of parents and the community at large.
Following the camp, which featured impactful cultural performances and skits by local students, the Secretary conducted a comprehensive review of the district’s progress with Deputy Commissioner Shishir Gupta and other senior officers to evaluate the effectiveness of the current outreach measures.
Piyush Singla further directed the police and enforcement agencies to take the toughest possible penal action against drug trafficking and peddling in the district. He specifically reviewed the progress of demolition drives against illegal structures owned by traffickers and the status of FIRs filed in recent months.
Taking stock of poppy cultivation destruction, he called for closer coordination between the Narcotics Control Bureau and revenue officials.
The meeting concluded with a mandate for increased media visibility of the campaign and the continued use of self-employment opportunities as a vital tool for the long-term rehabilitation of recovered individuals.
