Assam Rifles honors braveheart Nepali Tamang
CHANGLANG, May 5, 2026 — The Changlang Battalion of Assam Rifles organized a solemn wreath-laying ceremony today to honor the memory and supreme sacrifice of Rifleman Nepali Tamang.
The braveheart was Martyred in action on May 5, 1960, during an intense encounter with an insurgent group in Imphal, Manipur. The tribute was led by the Commandant of the unit, who placed a wreath to commemorate the soldier’s unwavering dedication to the nation in the line of duty.
During the commemorative event, the Commandant addressed the assembled ranks and recounted the inspiring story of courage and commitment displayed by Nepali Tamang.
The ceremony served as a reminder of the soldier’s legacy and the long-standing tradition of sacrifice within the force.
Officers and personnel gathered to pay their respects, ensuring that the heroism of those who served in the early years of the region’s security operations continues to be recognized and remembered by subsequent generations.
