Ladakh secures central funding for snow melt water conservation projects
NEW DELHI, MAY 4: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena met with Minister of Jal Shakti CRPaatil today in New Delhi to discuss and advance water conservation initiatives for the Ladakh region.
During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor provided an update on the recently launched Project Him Sarovar, an initiative designed to harvest snow melt to ensure long-term water security for the local population.
The Minister expressed his appreciation for the project and assured the Lieutenant Governor that the central government would provide all necessary assistance to support and expand these efforts.
The meeting resulted in a significant boost for Ladakh’s infrastructure, with the Minister sanctioning 8.75 crore in central assistance to fund various water-related projects across the region.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed his gratitude for this financial support, noting its importance for sustainable development.
Additionally, the Minister accepted an invitation to visit Ladakh and confirmed that a team of experts would be dispatched to the region shortly.
This team will assess current conservation projects and recommend innovative strategies to enhance water storage and support sustainable livelihoods.
