Manoj Sinha Leads Mega International Day of Yoga Celebration Along Dal Lake in Srinagar
SRINAGAR, June 21, 2026 :- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led Jammu and Kashmir in celebrating the 12th International Day of Yoga today, joining thousands of enthusiasts for a historic mass session on the banks of Dal Lake.
Extending warm greetings to the participants, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted this year’s theme and emphasized the unique power of yoga to unite humanity, noting that the ancient practice truly connects the world and guides society toward a healthier, happier future. He observed that true health means balancing the body, mind, and emotions, adding that while modern life constantly pulls attention outward to screens and stress, yoga teaches people to turn inward as a proud cornerstone of global health.
The Lieutenant Governor described yoga as a pathway to self-discovery rather than a mere physical workout. He explained that amidst the noise of routine activities, yoga aligns the mind and body, helps individuals decode their inner thoughts, and fosters a deep connection with nature.
He further highlighted its role in building mental agility, noting that while minds naturally drift to past worries or future anxieties, yoga trains people to master the present moment.
Pointing to the remarkable science behind the practice, he explained that focusing on the breath settles the mind and initiates stress reduction, referencing studies that show regular practice boosts memory, focus, and emotional balance.
Emphasizing that good health cannot be bought but must be cultivated through daily discipline, the Lieutenant Governor likened the mind and body to a plant that requires consistent care. He praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making yoga popular across the world, expressing pride in seeing global medical experts champion it as a vital tool for mental resilience.
He also commended the Jammu and Kashmir AYUSH department for working tirelessly to democratize yoga across rural and urban centers, noting its impactful role in driving real change within the Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir movement for both prevention and recovery.The event also featured the live telecast of the address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the global occasion.
A large number of participants attended the session along the scenic lake, including Sakina Itoo, Minister for Health and Medical Education, School and Higher Education, and Social Welfare Departments; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Nalin Prabhat, DGP; Additional Chief Secretaries; Administrative Secretaries; senior administrative and police officials; and citizens from all walks of life.
