All India Inter University Wushu Championship begins at University of Kashmir

SRINAGAR, MAY 4: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship at the University of Kashmir today, calling on athletes to lead the charge against substance abuse.

Addressing a large gathering of sports enthusiasts and competitors, the Lieutenant Governor urged the participating athletes to serve as ambassadors for the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.

He encouraged them to use their influence to inspire the younger generation to reject drugs and instead embrace the discipline and health benefits of a sporting lifestyle.

During the ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the administration’s dedication to fostering a strong sports culture within higher education institutions. He noted that the championship is a celebration of national unity, providing a platform for students from diverse backgrounds to connect through the values of excellence and discipline.

He described the event as a reflection of the resilience of Indian youth and a vital space for cultural exchange where competitors can build lasting friendships that transcend the spirit of the contest.In a move to amplify the message of healthy living, the Lieutenant Governor asked the athletes to create and share short videos on social media to promote awareness against drug abuse.

He highlighted that as role models, their voices carry the weight needed to guide the new generation toward positive and creative paths. The event, held under the Association of Indian Universities, has attracted over 1,000 athletes from more than 150 universities across the country, showcasing the expanding reach of Wushu among both men and women.

The six-day championship will feature various categories and bouts, highlighting the strength and precision of the martial art. The inaugural event was attended by Vice Chancellor Nilofer Khan, Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, and Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Ram Niwas Sharma, alongside other senior officials and sports personalities. The tournament is organized by the University of Kashmir Directorate of Physical Education and Sports.
