Massive Participation Across Jammu Province Marks 12th International Day of Yoga

JAMMU, June 21, 2026 :- The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with immense enthusiasm and widespread public participation across all districts of Jammu province today, aligning with the Union Territory-wide observance under the theme Yoga for Healthy Ageing.

In Jammu district, the main event was held at the Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, where Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh attended as the chief guest, joined by Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, and ADDC Jammu Sher Singh. Simultaneously, high-profile sessions took place at the High Court Complex in Janipur under the aegis of Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar, at the District Court Complex by the District Legal Services Authority led by Principal District and Sessions Judge Ravinder Nath Watal, and at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology under Vice Chancellor Prof BN Tripathi, all emphasizing the scientific benefits of yoga in fostering mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical resilience.

In Doda district, Deputy Commissioner Krishan Lal and SSP Kartik Shrotriya led the main gathering at the Sports Stadium, while a massive turnout of over 2,000 people, including senior citizens, participated in a special yog samavesh and plantation drive at Gatha Park in Bhaderwah under the supervision of ADC Sunil Kumar Bhutyal.

In Udhampur, the primary camp at Subhash Stadium featured MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta as the chief guest alongside DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, SSP Amritpal Singh, and Additional SP Sandeep Bhat, who collectively urged citizens to adopt the practice daily to build holistic health.

Meanwhile, a gathering of over 3,000 participants assembled at the District Administrative Complex in Ramban, led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan, SSP Arun Gupta, and field officers across various sub-divisions, focusing on stress management and youth engagement.

In Samba district, Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan led the celebrations at the Rani Suchet Singh Sports Stadium, participating in the common yoga protocol and advocating for its integration into daily routines to cultivate long-term wellness.

Kathua district recorded over 1,800 participants at its sports stadium, where MLA Dr Bharat Bhushan, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, and SSP Mohita Sharma combined the wellness session with a Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan pledge against drug abuse.

A similarly strong anti-drug message echoed in Kishtwar, where MLA Shagun Parihar and Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma hosted over 2,500 citizens at the Chowgan Ground, incorporating a live-stream of the Prime Minister’s national address from Kolkata and a Nasha Mukt pledge.

In Reasi district, MLA Kuldeep Raj Dubey, SSP Mukund Tibrewal, and ADDC Krishan Lal oversaw the main activities at the General Zorawar Singh Sports Stadium, which culminated in a drug-free awareness rally to the district headquarters, while student volunteers at the Government Degree College Kakryal held practical sessions dedicated to reducing academic stress.

Further highlighting the cross-sectoral reach of the initiative, Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma and SSP Shafket Hussain Bhat led the frontier district of Poonch at the local sports stadium, where wellness experts conducted deep breathing and postural exercises to encourage graceful aging.

Across all sub-divisions, judicial complexes, and rural blocks, the massive synchronization of these events underscored a collective regional commitment to transforming yoga into a sustainable community lifestyle.
