Assam Rifles Seizes Significant Arms Cache in Pherzawl District

PHERZAWL, May 3, 2026 — In a major intelligence-led operation, Assam Rifles and Pherzawl Police successfully recovered a substantial cache of weapons and war-like stores in the general area between Ngampanung and Phulpui.

The joint task force discovered an assortment of weaponry, including seven country-made single-barrel guns, a .303 rifle with a magazine, one pistol, and two Pompi guns. Additionally, the search team secured 32 Pompi bombs, 51 mortar rounds, and a Motorola communication set equipped with a charger, preventing these items from being used in potential insurgent activities.

While no arrests were made during the raid, the recovery is viewed as a critical success for regional stability. Security officials noted that the operation was particularly timely given the high-vigilance period surrounding the anniversary of the Manipur conflict.

By intercepting these illegal armaments, security forces have effectively neutralized a threat that could have been used to disrupt peace or target movement along National Highway 37.

The recovered items have been handed over to local authorities as investigations continue to identify the source of the hidden stockpile.
