Jammu Srinagar Vande Bharat Express commercial service starts tomorrow

JAMMU, MAY 01, 2026:- The Jammu and Kashmir region is set to reach a significant milestone as the Vande Bharat Express officially begins its regular commercial operations between Jammu and Srinagar on May 2nd.

Following its inauguration by Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, the modern high-speed train aims to transform the travel experience by connecting the Kashmir Valley to Jammu with world-class amenities. The introduction of this service has sparked immense enthusiasm among the public, with ticket bookings seeing a massive surge as passengers look to be part of the maiden journey.

Local residents and stakeholders have expressed long-standing anticipation for this connectivity initiative, noting that the shortened travel time will make the trip to Srinagar both pleasant and efficient.

This development is expected to provide a substantial boost to the regional tourism sector, facilitating easier and safer movement for visitors.

Local traders and Shikara owners in Srinagar have welcomed the service, citing its potential to revitalize the local economy and enhance tourist arrivals.In preparation for the launch, the Additional Member for Traffic and Commercial of the Railway Board visited the Jammu Railway Station on May 1st to review project progress and passenger facilities.

Accompanied by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, the official inspected catering installations and base kitchens to ensure the delivery of hygienic and nutritious food. The visit also included an assessment of the ongoing redevelopment work at Jammu and Chandigarh stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with an emphasis on timely completion to improve the overall passenger experience.

Uchit Singhal confirmed that the capacity of the service has been significantly expanded to meet demand. The train will now operate with 20 coaches, a substantial increase from the previous 8-coach configuration. With two pairs of 20-coach trains running on the route, approximately 2,900 passengers will be able to travel daily.
