Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary Orders Priority Mapping of Chronic Gair Mumkin Khads
JAMMU, April 27, 2026 — Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary chaired a high-level sub-committee meeting at the Civil Secretariat today to resolve long-standing public grievances regarding Gair Mumkin Khads across Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by cabinet ministers Javed Ahmad Rana and Javid Ahmad Dar, the Deputy Chief Minister directed authorities to prioritize the identification of chronic areas while ensuring the strict protection of flood zones.
The committee emphasized the need for a practical, pro-public approach to land classification, ordering departments to submit detailed reports in a time-bound manner to provide relief to citizens affected by current land restrictions.
During the session, Additional Chief Secretary Shaleen Kabra briefed the members on the current status of these water bodies and adjacent non-cultivable waste lands. The Deputy Chief Minister underscored the necessity of scientific, zone-wise mapping to differentiate between sensitive ecological zones and areas where public concerns can be amicably redressed.
Minister Javed Ahmad Rana called for coordinated efforts between the Irrigation and Flood Control departments, while Minister Javid Ahmad Dar stressed that addressing genuine public concerns must remain the priority.
The meeting concluded with a directive to expedite the mapping process and sensitize stakeholders to ensure that the integration of modern flood management does not unnecessarily hinder legitimate public interest.
