J&K Judicial Academy Hosts Orientation on New Criminal Laws and Modern Criminal Justice Administration
JAMMU, APRIL 26: The Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy organized a comprehensive one-day orientation programme titled “Criminal Justice Administration with special reference to New Criminal Laws” at the Police Auditorium in Jammu today.
Under the leadership of Justice Rajnesh Oswal and Justice Rahul Bharti, the event gathered judicial officers, police personnel, prosecutors, and legal students to dissect the transition from traditional frameworks to the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). Justice Oswal emphasized that these modern laws are designed to align with contemporary digital realities, noting that the law must evolve to remain an effective guardian of society.
He stressed that the success of these legislations depends on the collaborative spirit of all legal stakeholders.Justice Rahul Bharti further highlighted that the criminal justice system is an interdependent enterprise between the police, prosecution, and judiciary.
He challenged participants to move beyond systemic inefficiencies and entrenched stereotypes that often hinder the effective delivery of justice. During the technical sessions led by Senior Advocate Sakal Bhushan, attendees were provided with a detailed comparative analysis of the old and new statutes.
The discussions specifically focused on procedural reforms under the BNSS, the handling of electronic evidence under the BSA, and the revised punishment framework within the BNS.
The programme concluded with a call for continuous self-study and professional introspection to ensure the spirit of these new legal reforms is fully realized in practice across the Jammu province.
