DRDO Flags Off Advanced Armoured Platforms Developed with Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge
AHILYANAGAR, APRIL 25, 2026: In a major boost to indigenous defense manufacturing, the Advanced Armoured Platform (AAP) in both wheeled and tracked versions was officially flagged off today at the Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE).
Designed by VRDE under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and developed in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited, the platforms were inaugurated by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of DDR&D and Chairman of DRDO.
The ceremony was attended by senior defense scientists and top executives from the partner industries, marking a significant milestone in the public-private partnership aimed at modernizing India’s combat vehicle inventory.
The newly developed Advanced Armoured Platforms are specifically engineered to meet the evolving operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces in diverse terrains. Both the tracked and wheeled versions feature a state-of-the-art, indigenously designed crewless turret equipped with a 30 mm gun, enhancing firepower while prioritizing crew safety.
These versatile platforms are fully amphibious and possess the capability to launch Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, providing a lethal combination of mobility and offensive power.
This development underscores India’s growing self-reliance in high-end defense technology and its commitment to equipping the military with cutting-edge, home-grown armored solutions.
