Super Bazar Jammu to Undergo Modern Transformation as Yasha Mudgal Targets 25% Growth

JAMMU, March 30, 2026 — In a strategic move to revitalize the cooperative retail sector, Commissioner Secretary of the Cooperative Department, Yasha Mudgal, chaired a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat today to chart a new course for Jammu Cooperative Wholesale Limited (JCWL), popularly known as Super Bazar Jammu.

Highlighting the need for a competitive edge in the modern retail landscape, the Commissioner Secretary set a clear mandate for the institution to achieve a minimum of 25% growth in sales for the upcoming financial year.

The meeting, attended by top officials including Registrar Cooperative Societies Mohammad Shafiq Chak, focused on transitioning the traditional outlet into a vibrant, customer-centric hub through infrastructure upgrades and business diversification.

Central to this modernization plan is the rapid completion of renovation works at the Gandhi Nagar branch, funded under the CAPEX budget. Yasha Mudgal emphasized that the facility must be commissioned early without compromising on quality.

To ensure financial sustainability, the management has been directed to explore fresh revenue streams, including the introduction of organic specialty products, household utility sections, and value-added services.

Furthermore, in line with the “Cooperation among Cooperatives” principle, a membership drive will be launched over the next two months to integrate Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Cooperative Marketing Societies (CMS), thereby strengthening the supply chain and providing farmers with direct market access.

To better serve the public and maximize business opportunities, the Commissioner Secretary ordered a revision of operational hours, mandating that branches remain open until late evening on weekdays and observe extended hours on weekends.

Alongside aggressive marketing strategies and new discount schemes, the department plans to optimize the main Super Bazar complex by introducing commercial kiosks and public utility services.

With a strict 15-day deadline for a comprehensive action plan, the initiative aims to professionalize inventory management and staff capacity building, ultimately transforming Super Bazar Jammu into a model cooperative retail institution for the Union Territory.
