Reasi Police Arrest Drug Peddler with Heroin in Katra; FIR Registered

KATRA, REASI — March 30, 2026: In a decisive move to dismantle local narcotics networks, the Reasi District Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized a quantity of heroin during a targeted operation at Jiji Chowk, Katra.

As part of an ongoing campaign to foster a drug-free society, a special police team established a checkpoint (naka) for routine inspections, leading to the interception of a suspect identified as Divyansh Sharma, son of Vipin Sharma and a resident of Tea Garden, Katra.

Upon conducting a personal search, officers recovered 3 grams of heroin, commonly referred to as “Chitta,” from his possession.Following the recovery, the Katra Police Station immediately registered FIR No. 86/2026 under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act.

The accused is currently in custody as investigators work to trace the origin of the contraband and uncover further links within the regional supply chain. The successful operation was executed by SHO Katra, Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, with direct oversight from SDPO Katra, Dr. Bhishm Dubey, and SP Katra, Vipan Chandran.

Reinforcing the department’s zero-tolerance policy, SSP Reasi, Sh. Paramvir Singh, emphasized the commitment of the force to eradicating drug abuse. He issued a stern warning against the “menace of drugs” and urged the youth to remain vigilant.

The Reasi Police continue to call upon the public to act as partners in safety by reporting any suspicious drug-related activities to ensure the long-term security and health of the community.
