Indian Army organised Half Marathon In Ganderbal

The event highlighted the Army’s commitment to nation-building and youth engagement, drawing participation from local runners and promoting fitness, unity, and community spirit in the region.
Ganderbal March 29,2026:-Demonstrating its continued commitment towards nation-building and youth engagement, the Indian Army successfully organised the PTR Shabir Ahmad Malik, KC(P) Half Marathon on Sunday from Qamariya Ground, Ganderbal to Sainik School Manasbal.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 237 runners from across the districts, categorised under the open age category. The large turnout reflected the growing trust and positive response of the local population towards initiatives led by the Indian Army.
On the occasion, Veer Pita Shri Ghulam Hassan Malik was felicitated by the GOC, CIF(K) in a solemn tribute to the supreme sacrifice and valour of his son, PTR Shabir Ahmad Malik, KC(P).
The half marathon was flagged off from Madri-Meharbaan Ground Ganderbal and passed through Beehama Chowk, Chapergund, Wayil Bridge, LAR and Barsoo, before culminating at the Sainik School Manasbal Ground. The route was meticulously planned and effectively managed by the Army to ensure smooth conduct and participant safety.

Army personnel were deployed at key points throughout the route, providing guidance, motivation and logistical support, thereby ensuring a disciplined and well-coordinated event. The professional execution of the marathon highlighted the organisational capabilities and people-centric approach of the Indian Army.
Participants and local residents lauded the Indian Army for taking the lead in promoting physical fitness, discipline and a healthy lifestyle among the youth. Many noted that such initiatives strengthen the bond between the Army and civilians, while encouraging young people to channel their energy into positive and constructive activities.The successful conduct of the PTR Shabir Ahmad Malik, KC(P) Half Marathon stands as another example of the Indian Army’s proactive role in fostering social harmony, inspiring youth and contributing beyond its core operational responsibilities.
