Jammu and Kashmir Weather Forecast: MeT Srinagar Issues Advisory for Rain and Snow Through March 30

SRINAGAR, JAMMU & KASHMIR — The Meteorological Centre (MeT) Srinagar has issued a comprehensive weather update and safety advisory for the region, predicting a period of volatile weather conditions starting tonight, March 29, through the end of the month.

Residents and travelers across Jammu and Kashmir should prepare for intermittent light to moderate rain, snow in higher altitudes, and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph in several areas. This high-moisture system is expected to remain active until the night of March 30, potentially affecting visibility and road conditions.

Following this initial surge, the weather is projected to transition to a generally dry phase from March 31 to April 2, though isolated areas may still experience light precipitation.

However, a secondary, lighter spell of rain and snow is anticipated to move across scattered parts of the region between April 3 and April 4.

The MeT department emphasizes that while the intensity may fluctuate, the presence of thunder and high-velocity winds during the peak window poses a risk to temporary structures and outdoor activities.

In response to these conditions, authorities have issued a formal advisory for specific sectors.

Farmers are strongly urged to suspend all agricultural and farm operations until the weather stabilizes to prevent crop damage or logistical setbacks.

Furthermore, travelers and commuters are advised to monitor official administrative updates and traffic advisories closely before planning journeys, particularly through mountainous passes where snow and gusty winds are most likely to impact safety.
