Indian Army Conducts Landmark Cataract Surgeries in Remote Tangdhar Under Operation Sadbhavana
TANGDHAR, March 28, 2026 — In a major boost to healthcare accessibility for border communities, the 92 Base Hospital, in collaboration with the 328 Field Hospital, has successfully conducted specialized cataract surgeries in the remote Tangdhar region for the first time.
Operating under the aegis of the 15 Corps as part of Operation Sadbhavana, the medical teams performed advanced Phacoemulsification with foldable Posterior Chamber Intraocular Lens (PCIOL) implantations.
This milestone initiative brought high-standard surgical care directly to a population that previously faced significant geographical and logistical barriers to accessing specialized eye treatments.
The successful execution of these surgeries in a high-altitude, frontier location highlights the professional excellence and operational adaptability of the Indian Army’s medical corps.
By overcoming the challenges of transporting sophisticated surgical equipment to the doorstep of the local community, the pilot program ensured that residents received modern medical treatment without the need for arduous travel.
Following the success of this outreach, the Indian Army plans to scale up similar surgical camps in the coming months, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and health of citizens living in the most far-flung regions of the country.
