Akasa Air to Introduce Fuel Surcharge on Domestic and International Flights Starting March 15
MUMBAI, March 14, 2026 — Akasa Air has officially announced the introduction of a fuel surcharge for all flight bookings, effective from 00:01 hrs on March 15, 2026.
This decision comes in response to a substantial rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, largely driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. As fuel constitutes a major portion of an airline’s operational expenses, the carrier noted that these rising costs have created a significant impact across the entire aviation sector.
The new surcharge will apply to both domestic and international routes, with fees ranging from INR 199 to INR 1,300. The specific amount charged will be applied per sector and will vary based on the total duration of the flight.
Importantly, this surcharge will only affect new bookings made on or after the March 15 deadline; any tickets issued prior to this time will remain unaffected.
Akasa Air emphasized that while they remain committed to providing affordable fares and reliable service, they will continue to monitor the global operating environment and review the surcharge periodically as fuel prices fluctuate.
