DC Udhampur Distributes Sanction Orders Under Karkhandar Scheme to Boost Traditional Crafts

UDHAMPUR, FEBRUARY 14: In a significant move to empower local artisans and preserve regional heritage, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, today handed over official sanction orders to beneficiaries under the Karkhandar scheme.

The ceremony, held in the presence of Assistant Director of the Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Joginder Mangol, marked a key step in the district’s efforts to modernize traditional craftsmanship. The specific sanctions were issued to Shipali Sharma, a Master Trainer from Udhampur, and Sanjay Kumar from Tandar, Chenani, focusing on the skill upgradation and promotion of the intricate Chamba embroidery craft within the Udhampur district.

During the event, Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai highlighted the primary objectives of the Karkhandar scheme, describing it as a vital intervention designed to strengthen the livelihoods of craftsmen through structured training and financial support.

She emphasized that such government initiatives are essential for the revival of traditional arts, ensuring they remain viable in a modern economy while fostering sustainable self-employment opportunities for local youth.

Interacting with the recipients, the DC encouraged them to utilize the assistance to its fullest potential and extended her best wishes for their role in keeping the cultural legacy of Chamba embroidery alive for future generations.
