Foot and Mouth Disease vaccination campaign launched in Udhampur under national program

UDHAMPUR, July 2, 2026 — Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa inaugurated the district-wide Foot and Mouth Disease vaccination campaign under the National Animal Disease Control Programme at the District Veterinary Hospital in Udhampur today.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Animal Husbandry Department in implementing the national program and highlighted the importance of timely vaccination in preventing Foot and Mouth Disease, which is one of the most contagious diseases affecting livestock. He noted that effective disease prevention is essential for improving livestock productivity and farmers’ economic well-being, while appealing to livestock owners across the district to cooperate with the department to ensure every animal is vaccinated during the campaign.

Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Udhampur Shwetambri Khajuria informed the attendees that the campaign will be conducted across all blocks of the district as per the prescribed national schedule, urging farmers to extend full cooperation to field staff and avail of the free vaccination services.

Following the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner flagged off specialized veterinary vaccination teams deployed to cover all 17 blocks of the district. The launch event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh, IAS Probationer Shagun Singh, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Udhampur Shwetambri Khajuria, alongside other officials of the Animal Husbandry Department and local livestock farmers.
