Suspected Aircraft-Shaped Balloon With ‘PIA’ Marking Recovered in Samba; Police Launch Investigation

SAMBA, February 14, 2026 — Security agencies in the border district of Samba were sent into a state of alert today following the recovery of a suspicious aircraft-shaped balloon in the Panj Garai nursery area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Sherpur police post.

The white and blue balloon featured the initials “PIA”—associated with Pakistan International Airlines—printed prominently in both English and Urdu. Local residents who spotted the object in the open fields immediately alerted the authorities, leading to a swift response from the Sherpur police.Upon arriving at the scene, police officials took the balloon into their possession for a thorough forensic examination.

Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the origin of the balloon and whether it drifted across the International Border (IB) due to wind conditions or was released for other purposes.

While similar incidents have occurred in border districts in the past, security forces are not taking any chances and have increased vigilance in the surrounding sectors.

As of now, the situation in the area remains peaceful and normal, with the police continuing their probe to rule out any security implications.
