JAMMU, J&K — Feb 07, 2026 — In a major breakthrough for environmental conservation and law enforcement, the Jammu (Rural) Police successfully intercepted a large-scale illegal timber smuggling operation in the Domana area during the intervening night of February 6 and 7.
Acting on a sustained anti-smuggling mandate, a vigilant police team from Police Station Domana conducted a surprise naka check, leading to the interception of a TATA Mobile vehicle (Registration No. JK02BL-1654) found to be transporting approximately 33 to 35 quintals of high-value Khair wood without legal authorization.
Although the driver managed to escape into the darkness, abandoning the vehicle at the scene, the prompt seizure of the contraband has dealt a significant blow to local timber mafias.
Authorities have since notified the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) to initiate formal proceedings under the stringent provisions of the Forest Act, while the Jammu Rural Police reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to protecting the region’s natural resources and taking zero-tolerance action against those involved in the illicit trade of forest produce.
