PUNE, February 6, 2026 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Garrison Engineer and a Junior Engineer from the Military Engineering Services (MES) in Khadki, Pune, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe.
The case was initiated on February 3, 2026, after a complainant representing a private firm alleged that the officers were withholding payments for completed MES contracts to coerce a bribe of ₹6,00,000. Following negotiations, the accused officials reportedly agreed to accept a reduced first installment of ₹2,00,000.
Acting on this information, the CBI laid a trap on February 5, 2026, catching the Junior Engineer red-handed while accepting the ₹2 lakh payment at his office.
The Assistant Garrison Engineer was subsequently arrested for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy. Follow-up searches at the residential and official premises of the accused led to the recovery of incriminating documents and unexplained cash totaling ₹1,88,500, as the investigation into the matter continues.
