J&K Budget Session 2026: CM Omar Abdullah to Seek Reopening of Key Tourist Hubs with Home Minister

JAMMU, February 06, 2026 — During the Question Hour of the ongoing Budget Session, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grave concern over the nine-month-long closure of iconic tourist destinations, including Doodpathri, Tosamaidan, and Yousmarg. Responding to a query by MLA Khansahib Saif ud Din Bhat, the Chief Minister—who also holds the Tourism portfolio—admitted that these international attractions have remained off-limits due to critical security considerations.

Highlighting the severe economic fallout, he noted that the prolonged restrictions have devastated the livelihoods of ATV operators, ponywalas, vehicle owners, and local guides, many of whom are struggling to repay business loans.

To address this crisis, the Chief Minister announced that he will personally raise the reopening of these sites with the Union Home Minister during his current visit to the Union Territory.

While acknowledging that the security mandates currently fall outside the Tourism Department’s jurisdiction, the CM confirmed that the government is exploring a relief package for the affected youth and remains committed to long-term development, including the proposed Tosamaidan Gondola project under the Parvatmala Scheme.
