Minister Javed Ahmed Rana inaugurates rapid sand filtration plant in Dooru Anantnag

DOORU, JUNE 24 — Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, inaugurated a 0.31 MGD rapid sand filtration plant at Dooru Town in Anantnag district. Established under the Water Supply Scheme Augmentation Dooru Town, the project is being executed under JKIDFC/UT Capex to strengthen the potable water supply in the area.

Dedicating the plant to the public, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring safe, adequate, and reliable drinking water for every household across Jammu and Kashmir.The gravity-based scheme draws water from Verinag Nallah and caters to six wards of Dooru Town, including Arampora, Bonpora, Sehpora, Ganiepora, Mirmaidan, and Main Dooru Town.

Officials informed the Minister that the project will provide piped drinking water connectivity to all 2,164 households in the area, alongside 11 schools, one Degree College, and two hospitals. Additionally, the Minister reviewed an upcoming proposal under AMRUT 2.0 for a one lakh gallon service reservoir to extend coverage to newly developed households, directing officers to maintain strict quality standards.

Earlier in the day, the Minister inspected the Water Supply Scheme Express Highway near Navyug Tunnel in Qazigund, which is being implemented under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The multi-village scheme draws water from the Express Highway Spring near Navyug Tunnel to cover the panchayats of Chaki-Wangund, Tangloo, and Manzmoo in Block Hiller Shahabad.

The project will augment existing storage with an additional 65,000 gallons, benefiting 451 remaining households, 13 schools, 17 Anganwadi centers, and two health centers.The Minister also inspected a water storage tank at Chini Gund to review irrigation management and groundwater recharge. During the visit, MLA Dooru, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, expressed gratitude to the Minister for the infrastructure development.

Concluding his visit, the Minister hosted a public outreach camp to meet local delegations and individuals, assuring residents that their grievances would be resolved on a priority basis by the concerned departments.
