Live Mortar Shell Safely Defused Near Chajjala Bridge in Poonch’s Mankote Sector

POONCH, AUGUST 02 — Panic briefly gripped the Mankote sector of Poonch district on Monday morning following the recovery of an unexploded mortar shell near the Chajjala Bridge. According to official sources, local residents spotted the suspicious explosive around 8:45 AM within the jurisdiction of the Mankote Police Post and immediately alerted the authorities.

Swiftly responding to the threat, the 59 Engineering Regiment of the Indian Army (Bejalta Company, Balnoi Base) arrived at the scene by 9:00 AM and successfully defused the bomb in a controlled explosion. Thanks to the prompt action taken by the security forces, no loss of life or property was reported, and normalcy has since been restored to the area.
