Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Interacts With Kargil Farmers and Directs Immediate Measures to Support Agriculture

Kargil, July 29: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena interacted with progressive farmers in Kargil during his visit to the region.

While the farmers shared details about modern agricultural techniques used to maximize crop yields, they also highlighted major challenges including low market prices, inadequate processing facilities, and limited market access for high-value organic produce such as apricots, sea buckthorn, peas, lettuce, and broccoli.

To resolve these issues, the Lieutenant Governor directed the agriculture department to implement immediate measures, starting with the formation of a joint team of farmers and aggregators to explore new markets for competitive pricing.

Additionally, twenty progressive farmers—ten each from Leh and Kargil—will be sent to Kurukshetra in Haryana for advanced training in scientific organic farming so they can train others upon return. The administration will also prepare a comprehensive action plan to strengthen storage and value-addition infrastructure while promoting floriculture as a sustainable livelihood opportunity to boost farmer incomes and build a resilient agricultural economy in Ladakh.
