Udhampur Traffic Advisory Issued Amid Continuous Rainfall, Landslides, and Road Hazards

UDHAMPUR JULY 29— In response to persistent inclement weather and continuous rainfall across District Udhampur, the Office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) has issued a critical public advisory urging all motorists, particularly drivers of commercial and passenger transport vehicles, to exercise extreme caution on the roads. Officials warned that heavy rains have triggered widespread incidents of landslides, mudslides, shooting stones, and waterlogging across multiple road stretches. The slippery conditions and increased threat of traffic disruptions and road accidents have prompted authorities to mandate strict safety precautions to protect all road users navigating the district.

Under the detailed guidelines, vehicle operators—especially those managing passenger services—are required to conduct thorough pre-journey safety checks on essential systems, including brakes, tyres, headlights, wipers, and steering components. The department strictly prohibited the overloading of passengers or goods under any circumstances and urged transport conductors and support staff to actively assist drivers along vulnerable stretches. Motorists have been advised to avoid driving through waterlogged roads or overflowing nallahs, maintain moderate speeds with safe following distances, and refrain from non-essential travel during periods of severe weather. Transport operators must ensure full compliance with mechanical and statutory safety norms before operating on public roads, and commuters are strongly advised to check prevailing weather and road conditions prior to setting out on any journey.
