Indian Navy’s INS Sudarshini Concludes Historic New York Port Call During Lokayan 2026 Expedition

NEW DELHI, July 9, 2026 — Indian Naval Sail Training Ship (STS) INS Sudarshini successfully concluded her port call in New York, USA, on July 8, 2026, marking a significant milestone in her ongoing 10-month Lokayan 2026 transoceanic expedition. The indigenously built three-masted barque represented India at the International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations, which commemorate the 250th anniversary of United States independence. A major highlight of the visit featured INS Sudarshini participating in the spectacular Parade of Sail, proudly flying the Indian National Flag past the Statue of Liberty and along the Hudson River alongside an impressive fleet of international tall ships and naval vessels.

While docked in Brooklyn, the vessel served as a floating ambassador of India and welcomed over 1,000 visitors—including members of the Indian diaspora, local residents, and maritime enthusiasts—offering them unique insights into India’s rich maritime heritage and naval sail training traditions. The ship also hosted several distinguished dignitaries, including the Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, both of whom interacted with the crew and praised the ship’s role in strengthening bilateral ties. Additionally, a State Dinner hosted on board brought together senior diplomats and military officials to reinforce the growing India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Following the successful completion of her engagements, INS Sudarshini departed New York for Boston to participate in the upcoming Sail Boston 2026 celebrations, continuing her global mission of friendship and maritime cooperation.
