Chief Secretary Calls for Mission-Mode Completion of PMAY-Urban Housing Schemes in Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 30, 2026 – Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Housing & Urban Development Department to evaluate the implementation of urban poor housing initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban across Jammu and Kashmir.

Emphasizing that affordable housing is a fundamental necessity for economically weaker households, the Chief Secretary highlighted how PMAY-U serves as a transformative social welfare initiative by reducing financial burdens and allowing families to allocate resources toward education, healthcare, and nutrition.

High-ranking officials, including Additional Chief Secretary of the Power Development Department, Commissioner Secretary H&UDD Mandeep Kaur, Municipal Corporation Commissioners, and J&K Housing Board Managing Director Smita Sethi, attended the meeting to streamline execution across all Union Territory districts.

Reviewing progress under PMAY-U 1.0, officials reported that 31,663 dwelling units out of the revised target of 36,412 have been completed, achieving an 87 percent completion rate with remaining units nearing finish. Discussions on PMAY-U 2.0 revealed significant groundwork, with 92 Detailed Project Reports approved for 2,120 houses under the Beneficiary Led Construction vertical, alongside the ongoing verification of over 20,000 received applications.

To ensure seamless execution, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo directed Deputy Commissioners and field functionaries to expedite verification processes, conduct regular inspections via digital tracking platforms, and clear operational bottlenecks in a mission-mode approach to ensure every eligible urban poor household receives timely assistance.
