Chief Election Commissioner of India arrives in Srinagar for three day visit
SRINAGAR June 28,2026 — Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar arrived in Srinagar today for a three-day official visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
During his stay, the chief election commissioner will oversee multiple programmes across the Valley to engage with voters, electoral stakeholders, and field-level election machinery, alongside reviewing ongoing grassroots electoral initiatives.
Upon landing at the Sheikh ul Alam International Airport, he was received by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Verma, Budgam Deputy Commissioner Athar Amir, and other senior officials from the administration and the election department.
Speaking to the media at the airport, the chief election commissioner expressed his plan to interact closely with voters throughout the region, placing a specific emphasis on strengthening connections with grassroots functionaries. He noted that he would be meeting with voters and booth level officers of Budgam district, who he described as the cornerstone of the Election Commission, with an interaction session scheduled for Monday morning.
The visit aligns with the Election Commission of India’s ongoing efforts to boost democratic participation, raise awareness, enhance field preparedness, and deepen engagement with local stakeholders.
