Assam Rifles and joint forces seize contraband worth over 15 crore in Northeast anti drug operations

CACHAR, JULY 2, 2026 — In a major crackdown on regional smuggling networks, the Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps, collaborating with the Cachar Police, the Customs Department, and the Special Narcotics Police, executed a series of intelligence-led operations resulting in massive seizures of narcotics and contraband across the Northeast.

During a joint operation at Tollengram in Cachar, Assam, security forces apprehended two traffickers and recovered 30,000 Yaba tablets alongside 535 grams of Heroin No. 4, carrying an estimated market value of 9.5 crore rupees.The multi-agency offensive extended into Mizoram, where operations disrupted separate smuggling channels. At Khuangphah in Saitual, security personnel intercepted four smugglers and confiscated 9,100 kilograms of illegal areca nuts valued at approximately 63.7 lakh rupees.

Meanwhile, another targeted raid at Sairang led to the arrest of three traffickers and the recovery of 1.938 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets worth an estimated 5.814 crore rupees.

Officials noted that these successful operations highlight the continuous vigilance, professional expertise, and seamless inter-agency coordination dedicated to dismantling illegal drug and contraband networks in the region.
