ARTO Budgam Launches Major Road Safety Drive on Doodhpathri Route, Recommends Suspension of 5 Driving Licences and 15 Vehicle Registrations

BUDGAM, AUGUST 07, 2026 — Acting under the direct instructions of Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Budgam conducted a comprehensive road safety enforcement drive along multiple key routes leading to the popular tourist destination of Doodhpathri. Led by ARTO Budgam, Sheikh Manzoor Ahmad, the special crackdown primarily targeted two-wheelers and commercial passenger vehicles to ensure strict compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act. Transport officials focused heavily on curbings risks associated with non-functional or tampered Speed Limiting Devices (SLDs), helmetless riding, and triple riding on two-wheelers.

During the single-day operation, the enforcement team issued 20 on-the-spot challans, accumulating expected fine collections of approximately Rs 65,000 for various traffic offenses. Taking a firm stance against repeat and severe safety defaults, the ARTO team formally recommended the suspension of five driving licences along with 15 Registration Certificates (RCs) belonging to commercial vehicles caught operating with tampered speed governors. Beyond on-road checks, the transport authority extended its inspection drive to local vehicle dealerships dealing in new and pre-owned automobiles, checking statutory compliance and instructing dealers to complete all mandate legal documentation prior to making any vehicle sales. Reinforcing the initiative, official representatives confirmed that similar strict enforcement operations will continue across the Budgam district to raise safety standards and ensure uncompromising adherence to traffic regulations.
