J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Launches AI Centre of Excellence and Phoenix e-Commerce Platform at IIT Jammu
JAMMU, AUGUST 07, 2026 — In a major push toward technological innovation and economic growth, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah interacted with the faculty at IIT Jammu today, inaugurating the institute’s state-of-the-art AI Centre of Excellence (AI-CoE) and officially dedicating the Phoenix e-Commerce Platform to the public. The dual launches mark a pivotal milestone in transforming the union territory into a technology-driven, entrepreneurship-led hub designed to empower local youth and foster long-term economic resilience.
The newly inaugurated AI Centre of Excellence is poised to serve as a foundational anchor for cutting-edge research, public-good innovation, and capacity building across the region. By applying artificial intelligence to key sectors—including public governance, precision agriculture, healthcare accessibility, and modern education—the center aims to streamline public service delivery while solving localized challenges through data-driven technology. During his interaction with the academic and research staff at IIT Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between higher education institutes and real-world administrative needs.
Simultaneously, the launch of the Phoenix e-Commerce Platform brings a direct digital boost to the region’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local artisans. Designed to expand market reach beyond regional borders, the platform provides local entrepreneurs and businesses with modern digital infrastructure, payment integrations, and supply chain visibility. By reducing barriers to entry for regional businesses, the initiative is expected to stimulate local employment, foster startup growth, and drive sustainable socio-economic development across Jammu and Kashmir.
