SSP Benam Tosh Urges Communities to Host Local Dangals and Cultural Events to Combat Drug Abuse in Jammu and Kashmir

Udhampur, August 07, 2026 — In a major push to direct youth energy toward positive and healthy pursuits, Senior Superintendent of Police and Deputy Director of the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, Benam Tosh, has called upon citizens to frequently host traditional wrestling matches, widely known as ‘dangals’, alongside local sports and cultural competitions. Speaking to a massive gathering of thousands during a grand public wrestling tournament at Chour Galiote, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Panchari in Udhampur district, Benam Tosh emphasized that community-driven sports events play a vital role in eradicating the drug abuse crisis. He urged the public to actively participate in the ongoing 100-week campaign, “Nasha Mukt Yuva For Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan,” noting that such grass-roots initiatives build on the tremendous success of the recently concluded 100-day “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan.”

The spectator-heavy event highlighted the power of traditional sports in fostering unity and youth engagement, featuring over one hundred competitive bouts fought by noted wrestlers hailing from Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, and Ramban districts. Several prominent community leaders and local figures attended the sports spectacle, including Avtar Singh Badsali, Surjit Singh Chanjiyal, Sindoor Singh, Anchal Singh, Kartar Lotalia, and Hoshiyar Singh Mastana.
