Ladakh smart energy center opens to boost green jobs and skill development

LEH, July 11, 2026 — Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Smart Energy and Electrical Systems at the Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency campus in Leh.

The landmark initiative is designed to equip local youth with advanced skills in renewable energy, industrial automation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and smart microgrids. Built in record time, the newly established facility will offer specialized training tailored to the unique geographic challenges of the region for engineers, ITI graduates, and professionals.

The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh provided the building for the center, while Schneider Electric joined the initiative as the energy technology partner under its corporate social responsibility program.

The state-of-the-art facility features advanced laboratories, digital learning platforms, and industry-oriented training curriculum aligned with national development programs like Skill India, Digital India, and Make in India.

The center aims to build a skilled, self-reliant local workforce capable of driving the clean energy transition in Ladakh, nurturing innovators and technology leaders, and supporting sustainable growth across the country.
