Kathua police constable dismissed from service for prolonged unauthorized absence
KATHUA, July 11, 2026 — Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua, Mohita Sharma, has ordered the dismissal of Selection Grade Constable Bachan Sharma from the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department due to a prolonged unauthorized absence from duty.
The official, a resident of Dhaloti in the Marheen tehsil who was appointed in 2011 and posted at the District Police Lines Kathua, had been marked absent since November 10, 2023.
Despite multiple notices, wireless messages, summons sent through the Rajbagh Police Station, show-cause notices, and public notices in leading newspapers, he failed to report back for duty.
A formal departmental inquiry subsequently found the official guilty of willful unauthorized absence spanning more than two and a half years, demonstrating a gross disregard for departmental discipline.
Exercising powers under the Jammu and Kashmir Police Manual, the administration finalized the dismissal retroactively from the initial date of absence.
The dismissed official has been directed to return all government property and obtain a no-demand certificate from the department, with failure to comply risking legal action.
