Vaishno Devi Pilgrimage halted for 13th Day amid landslide safety review

Katra (V.D) 07 September :- For the thirteenth consecutive day, the sacred pilgrimage to the Vaishno Devi shrine remains suspended as authorities address ongoing safety hazards following a fatal landslide. The suspension, prompted by continuous adverse weather, persists due to landslides and road blockages along the treacherous Trikuta Hills route, rendering it unsafe for travelers.

This precautionary measure was initiated after a devastating landslide on August 26 near Adhkuwari, which resulted in 34 fatalities and multiple injuries. In response, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has established a high-level investigative committee, led by Additional Chief Secretary Shaleen Kabra. This committee is tasked with determining the incident’s cause, evaluating the emergency response, and developing new safety protocols to prevent future tragedies, with a report expected within two weeks.
