Heavy rain and landslides close Kishtwar Highway at Prem Nagar

KISHTWAR, July 6, 2026 :- Heavy rainfall triggered a major landslide near the 540 MW Kwar Power Project in Kishtwar, leaving several vehicles buried under debris.

Officials reported that multiple vehicles sustained extensive damage and remain trapped beneath the landslide material. Debris clearance operations are currently underway to retrieve the stranded vehicles and restore normalcy to the affected area.

Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway has been completely closed at Prem Nagar in Doda since last night due to heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides. The continuous downpour caused mud, debris, and water to flood the road, entirely disrupting traffic movement.

Local administration and concerned clearance agencies are actively working on the site to clear the highway and restore traffic as quickly as possible.The local administration has issued a heavy rain alert for the Kishtwar area following these incidents.

Officials have appealed to all locals, travelers, and pilgrims to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and check the latest road status before heading out. Travelers are strongly advised to cooperate with authorities and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the administration until weather conditions improve.
