Shopian World Bicycle Day Cyclothon Promotes Fitness and Anti Drug Campaign
SHOPIAN, JUNE 03 — The Department of Youth Services and Sports Shopian organized a grand cyclothon today to commemorate World Bicycle Day 2026 under the banner of the Fit India Movement and 100 Days Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan. Conducted under the overall supervision of PEM Raja Basharat Wachkoo, the event was flagged off by Deputy Superintendent of Police Talat Mehmood from the New Bus Stand Batpora.
The cyclothon commenced from Batpora and culminated at the District Police Lines Shopian, drawing enthusiastic participation from more than 121 cyclists, including youth and students from various educational institutions. Participants spread vital messages concerning physical fitness, healthy living, environmental sustainability, and a drug-free society while also taking part in a pledge ceremony dedicated to making Shopian free from the menace of drug abuse.
The event highlighted the importance of cycling as an eco-friendly and healthy mode of transportation while encouraging citizens to adopt active lifestyles. The overwhelming participation reflected a growing awareness among the local youth regarding health, fitness, and social responsibility.
Concluding the event, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer Shopian expressed gratitude to the Police and Health Departments, participating institutions, and all the cyclists for their invaluable support in making the initiative a grand success.
