CBI Court Sentences Three Individuals To Six Years Imprisonment In Tripura Chit Fund Scam

AGARTALA, May 31, 2026 – The Central Bureau of Investigation Court in West Tripura District, Agartala, has convicted a private company, Pragati Sheel Infra Projects and Services Limited, along with its top executives in connection with a major chit fund case.

The court sentenced CMD Arindam Das, Director Paritosh Das, and Administrative Director Dipshikha Chakraborty to six years of rigorous imprisonment. In addition to the prison terms, a fine of Rs 3 lakh each has been imposed on the three individuals, while the private company faces a fine of Rs 7 lakh.The case dates back to April 2012, when it was initially registered by the state police following allegations that the accused individuals had cheated multiple investors by refusing to refund their money, ultimately misappropriating deposits amounting to Rs 5-6 crore collected from the general public.

In pursuance of notifications issued by the state government of Tripura and the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India, the case was officially re-registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation in October 2013 for a deeper investigation. The agency subsequently filed a chargesheet against the accused individuals and the private entity in May 2018, leading to the trial and final conviction.

Following the judgment, the Special Judge ordered that the fine amounts imposed upon the convicts, once realized, will be forwarded to competent authorities for proportionate distribution among the aggrieved depositors. This process will be managed through the District Magistrate and Collector of Unakoti District, Kailashahar, who will oversee the distribution across respective sub-divisions.

Furthermore, the court has requested the relevant authorities to recover the defrauded amount from the attached assets of the accused to ensure that the identified investors who lost their money receive their due refunds in accordance with the law.
