Samba administration launches massive market inspection drive to protect consumer rights
SAMBA, May 26, 2026 — Under the directions of Samba Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Director Rajesh Kumar Shavan, a joint market inspection drive was conducted across various parts of the district today.
The operation was supervised by Assistant Director Rahul Gupta, who led coordinated teams comprising officials from the Revenue, Police, Food Safety, and Legal Metrology departments.
The inspection teams covered the entire Ghagwal–Bari Brahmana belt, including major markets in Ghagwal, Samba, Vijaypur, and Bari Brahmana, to ensure strict enforcement of consumer protection laws, food safety regulations, and statutory provisions.
During the extensive drive, business establishments were thoroughly checked for the proper display of rate lists, adherence to government-notified prices, maintenance of hygiene and quality standards, and the accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments.
While traders were sensitized about their statutory responsibilities, those found violating the prescribed norms were penalized on the spot under relevant legal provisions. District authorities stated that this initiative is part of a sustained campaign to strengthen market surveillance, curb arbitrary profiteering, and protect consumer interests, adding that similar joint inspections will continue across the district in the coming days to maintain strict market discipline.
